Sister Cities Girlchoir in collaboration with Opera Philadelphia and The Philadelphia Singers presents Vivaldi’s Gloria in concert at the Ethical Society in Rittenhouse Square on Saturday, May 11th at 2pm. The Girlchoir is comprised of at-risk girls from West Philadelphia, Kensington, and Camden, NJ.
The concert celebrates the first year of the program that provides at-risk girls with weekly, tuition-free musical training. The concert is a unique opportunity for the Girlchoir to sing side-by-side with the area’s top professional musicians in a beautiful setting in Rittenhouse Square in Center City Philadelphia.
The concert opens with Antonio Vivaldi’s masterwork Gloria. Opera Philadelphia artists will perform as the soloists and a select group from The Philadelphia Singers will sing two of the choruses. The Girlchoir will perform two of the major choruses in the original Latin.
The second half of the concert features special guest, teen jazz pianist, Rocco Fiorentino in a lively set of familiar tunes. The Voorhees teen, who has been blind since birth, has gained national recognition for his advocacy for the blind and his outstanding musical talent. The concert will close with a medley of songs from around the world. Admission is free and tickets are required.
